Continue to expand the talents of your dog’s nose, hone his hunting ability, and sharpen your handling skills so that when the search for odor is introduced, the dog’s desire to play the game is very strong and you will have established good teamwork with your dog. The hunt motivation should now be directional: cookies, not cats; birch, not bunnies.

During this class, the dog will be introduced to the first target odor, birch, by the visual cue of the treat box placed in the search environment; the target odor is paired with food treats, initially in that box. We will also work on the concept of being “brilliant at the basics” – and start learning management of thresholds, corners, channels, and other spots where the dog can more easily access odor.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Beginning Nosework (NW 1).
